Heel Pain

Heel pain is a very common foot condition. Heel pain is most commonly caused by plantar fasciitis, which is an inflammation of the ligament running from the heel to the ball of the foot. People who have naturally tight calf muscles, flat feet, very high arches, or who are overweight, are at an increased risk of developing heel pain. The most common symptom of plantar fasciitis is pain, especially upon first steps in the morning. The pain usually decreases after you walk a few steps, but it may return with prolonged movement. Treatment is aimed at decreasing the inflammation of the ligament with rest, stretching, orthotics, medication, injections, and physical therapy.
